A man who witnessed the crashing of the missing F-35 fighter jet has given an amusing interview recounting the incident.

71-year-old Randolph White is a retired paper mill worker who’s lived with his wife in Georgetown, SC for the last decade. “It’s nice and quiet and peaceful. And I don’t have to worry about people close up tight [on us] you know? I like space,” he told WBTW News 13. That all changed Sunday when an F-35 Lightning jet, declared missing after a “mishap” which saw its pilot eject, came crashing down just yards from their house.

“I was in the bathroom taking a shave, and I heard a screeching. Sorta between a screech and whistle,” White recalled, before doing his best impression of the noise for news cameras. “I said, ‘What in the world is this?’ [Then] I heard [a] boom, and my whole house shook.”

At first, White had no idea what happened. “The first thought that came to me [was], ‘Did a meteorite come from outer space or something?’”

Ultimately, he deduced it could only be an airplane, and that “it needs to be reported because that thing was flying just too low. I didn’t give it any other thought. I knew it was low because my house is pretty solid, and it shook…. By the grace of god, nobody got hurt,” he said, before elaborating: “There’s a church up there about a half mile down the road.”

White has already won the internet’s heart with his lively storytelling.

The F-35 created an extensive debris field, which sources anticipate will close down part of the road leading to and from White’s house for an undisclosed period of time. Randolph isn’t upset, though. He just wants authorities to figure out what happened so they can tell the public.

“Anything man-made can malfunction,” he reasoned. “So you try to give them the benefit of the doubt. But it needs to be investigated and the public needs to know what really happened. It shouldn’t be kept a secret. Because, you know, it could’ve been a major disaster.”
