With the fall in full swing and bears everywhere starting to build up fat for hibernation season, it’s probably best to get out of any hungry bear’s way if they’re searching for their next meal. One family in Mexico learned that lesson firsthand when trying to have a peaceful picnic outside.

Viral video from the incident shows a black bear on top of a picnic table in a park and eating from the takeout containers that Silvia Macias and her son Santiago brought to eat. They were trying to enjoy a relaxing afternoon at Chipinque Ecological Park in the city of San Pedro Garza García outside Monterrey. Being that it’s an area dedicated to wildlife, it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that a bear decided to join them for lunch.

The two-minute video shows the bear sampling the various dishes while Macias sat still and silent; her son buried his face in her neck and she covered his eyes while the animal continued chowing down. At one point, the bear even seemed as if it was going to lunge at the two and start eating them, but it just went on trying the Mexican fare

According to PetHelpful, Macias is a midwife and a yoga instructor in her daily life, so it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that she was able to remain calm, cool, and collected in such a scary situation. Her son, meanwhile, hasn’t even been able to watch the video yet as he was so spooked by the encounter.

Macias demonstrated one correct behavior if you ever find yourself in a bear’s path: remain calm and don’t make any sudden movements that can startle the bear. You should, however, try to slowly back away and put some distance between yourself and the animal. Hopefully, once winter sets in, humans won’t have too many run-ins with hungry hibernating creatures.
