Conditions this winter have been no match for the high-quality gear coming out of REI, from waterproof boots to insulated puffer jackets and so many more products that stand up to freezing temps. But the brand just announced its winter clearance sale with nearly 7,000 products marked down by as much as 50% from brands like The North Face, Patagonia, New Balance, and more.
While there’s a sea of options to choose from, there are several categories we’ve found that offer some of the biggest discounts of the lot. REI’s winter clearance sale is the perfect place to shop for new jackets, be it for winter, running, or spring. Among the jackets, you’ll find huge savings on REI Co-op products as well as those from high-end brands like Arc’teryx.
There are also nearly 100 marked-down styles of men’s running shoes to pick from. Popular brands like Hoka and On have a handful of styles up to 30% off. Core brands like Saucony, Salomon, and Brooks also have a variety of shoes to choose from for up to 50% off.
After Men’s Journal browsed through REI’s winter clearance sale, we found these six items you should look at before anything else.
Salomon Outpulse Mid Gore-Tex Hiking Boots, $112 (was $160) at REI
Salomon’s Outpulse Gore-Tex hiking boots wear like sneakers with all the benefits of a hardcore hiking boot. A mid-height boot, they’re waterproof and breathable with the prized Salomon grip seen in many of the brand’s boots.
What Shoppers Are Saying: “They were super comfortable on the streets and great on the disc golf courses (played twice). Good grip. We did have some rain, and temps down to the high 20s, and they kept me warm and dry.”

Available in a neutral green and cream colorway, these Darn Tough hiking socks are the perfect companion for any type of outdoor footwear. They’re wool, so they’re naturally breathable, odor-resistant, and antimicrobial, and because they have hidden seams, they won’t chafe your feet.
What Shoppers Are Saying: “These socks are truly incredible in their design and comfort. I’ve worn all the major sock brands out there: Smartwool, Woolrich, Icebreaker, Puma, Nike, etc. None of them are as good as Darn Tough socks.”

New Balance Fresh Foam X 880v13 Road-Running Shoes, $70 (was $140) at REI
At 50% off, these road running shoes from New Balance are one of the best deals to score during REI’s winter clearance sale. They pack moderate cushioning under a full mesh upper for a comfortably plush saunter, regardless of the surface. Use these as your daily drivers.
What Shoppers Are Saying: “I’ve taken these on relatively short (3-5 mile) runs about three or four days a week for the past month and they are awesome! There’s not much of a break-in period, they are light, the fit and sizing are correct, and the laces don’t come loose. I usually wear another big running brand but I am definitely leaning towards these from now on.”

The North Face McMurdo Down Parka, $281 (was $400) at REI
It doesn’t get much tougher than The North Face’s McMurdo parka. This jacket is a fortress, featuring 600-fill-down power while remaining flexible and breathable with plenty of pocket storage.
What Shoppers Are Saying: “I wore it camping in Minnesota last weekend when the temps dropped to -7 degrees. It kept me warm all evening and in the morning as we broke camp. It runs a bit big (I have the XXL), but that was great as it allows me to layer up under the parka. I normally don’t wear hoods, but this one is pretty comfortable and the ‘fur’ trim didn’t bother me at all. Plus, the trim is removable. It also did a great job keeping the wind off me.”

What Shoppers Are Saying: “Great shirt. Love the color combo. Love the fit. Love the weight (it’s truly midweight and heavier than many other lightweight ‘midweights’ out there).”
