Netflix May Increase Price Again, Just a Few Months After Last Hike

Many Netflix subscribers saw their subscription prices jump just a few months ago, but it looks like the price hikes at the streaming giant aren’t done just yet. 

According to Variety, analysts at UBS Securities predict that the streamer will once again up its prices this year, writing in a report they “expect to see rate increases this year” on the platform. It comes after Netflix increased the price of its Basic plan from $9.99 to $11.99 per month in the U.S. last October, which coincided with price hikes in the U.K. and France. 

While Netflix hasn’t announced plans to raise subscription prices in 2024, it also hasn’t ruled out the possibility. Co-CEO Greg Peters explained the company’s financial standing on its Q4 2023 earnings call, saying they “largely put price increases on hold” last year while focusing on introducing its paid-sharing program. “Now that we’re through that, we’re able to resume our sort of standard approach toward price increases,” he said. “Price increases, you’ve seen us do that in the U.S., U.K., and France. Those changes went well better than we forecasted.”

As for when consumers can expect a price hike, Peters said it depends on other factors. The company will “ask [customers] to pay a bit more” after they’ve “delivered enough additional entertainment value” that will allow them to “invest in more great films, series, and games for those members.” For now, Peters said it’s “Back to business as usual.”
