Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger recently reunited at the 96th Academy Awards to present the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. However, that joint appearance might have been a tease for another big screen collaboration between the two beloved actors.

DeVito, 79, and Schwarzenegger, 76, famously starred together in two comedy films, Junior in 1994 and 1988’s Twins. And though they never appeared together in the franchise, as the pair joked onstage at the Oscars, they “both tried to kill Batman,” referring to Batman Returns (1992) starring DeVito as the Penguin and Batman & Robin (1997) starring Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze.

While promoting Matilda in Concert this week, which DeVito provides narration for, he told the New York Post that he and Schwarzenegger have spoken to a Warner Bros. executive about doing a new film together.

“So we’re in the process of … we’re thinking about it. It may not be related to Twins. Or, it may be related to other things that we’ve done. Junior or Batman,” DeVito explained. “I think the two of us in a fun situation. I love hanging out with him. It’s a really cool thing, and he’s such a nice guy.”

DeVito likewise teased plans for an on-screen reunion with Schwarzenegger in another recent interview with CNN.

“Arnold and I are good buddies. We met way before Twins, years ago,” he told the cable news network. “We’re working on something, a project that we’re going to do together, another movie. We get along really well.”

The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star also revealed how he and Schwarzenegger tried to keep their Oscars appearance under wraps leading up to the ceremony.

“When they asked to do this, it’s just so much fun and we kept it a surprise as much as we could,” he added. “We didn’t tell anybody and that was fun going out there and it was a big, good reception. They were very, very nice to us.”

If nothing else, you can’t argue that their chemistry isn’t still as charming as it’s ever been. It will be interesting to see what the honchos at Warner come up with for the pair, or perhaps a streaming platform such as Netflix.
