Former Giants Offensive Tackle Dead at 28

Former NFL offensive tackle Korey Cunningham, who played with the Arizona Cardinals, the New England Patriots, and most recently, the New York Giants, was found dead at his New Jersey home on Thursday afternoon. He was just 28.

According to local New Jersey outlet, RLS Media, police and emergency medical service personnel arrived at the scene just before 3:30 p.m. responding to a report of an unconscious man at the residence. Authorities discovered Cunningham shortly upon arrival, reporting that his death was self-inflicted.

Cunningham was drafted by the Cardinals as a seventh round NFL Draft pick in 2018, where he played one season for the team. In 2019 he was traded to the Patriots until being released by the team in 2021.

From there, he was signed on with the Giants, where he spent the final two years of his NFL career alternating between practice squad and active roster. He played his final game with the Giants against the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 24, 2022.

After news of Cunningham’s death was reported, the Giants released a statement expressing the team’s condolences.

“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Korey Cunningham,” the team posted to social media. “He was a vital part of the spirit and camaraderie of the locker room. Our thoughts are with Korey’s family, friends and teammates.”

New England likewise said that it was saddened to learn of Cunningham’s unexpected passing, extending heartfelt sympathies to his family and teammates.
