REI just wrapped up its Anniversary Sale—its biggest annual event that showcased over 10,000 markdowns on everything from camping essentials like sleeping pads and tents to summer gear like sun hoodies and e-bikes. Hiking was also a major draw for the sale and included some rarely-discounted styles like Merrell’s most iconic hiking boots, which, somehow, are still on sale today.

The Merrell Moab 3 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots are on sale right now at REI for just $112—a 25% discount on the normally $150 style. The boots have earned over 500 five-star ratings from shoppers who say they’re “nearly indestructible,” making them the No. 2 bestselling pair of hiking boots for men on the site. They’re currently available in sizes 7 to 15 including wides and come in four great colors, though some have started to sell out.

These Moab 3 boots feature an upper with durable leather in high-abrasion spots and are loaded with protection thanks to reinforced toe and heel bumpers, a gusseted tongue, and the brand’s iconic waterproof membrane that keeps feet dry at all times. A thick Vibram rubber sole provides sure-footed traction and comfort when handling jagged terrain, but the biggest draw to this boot might be the comfort. While the Moab 2 and even the original model were great, this third iteration takes comfort a step further with more arch-friendly insoles, a thicker and more cushioned midsole, and better shock absorption technology.

These boots come with a pedigree and high expectations, but those who have welcomed it into their gear arsenal say it’s exactly what they expected. “They are nearly indestructible,” one shopper boldly stated. “I’ve been wearing Merrells for over 20 years,” a diehard shopper said. “They are the best hikers you can buy. I used to read meters for Colorado Springs Utilities, walking an average of 7 miles a day on all types of terrain and in all types of weather. My feet were always dry and comfortable. These are the only shoes I will buy.”

Other shoppers swear by them thanks to their generously cut widths and lightweight construction. “Full disclosure: I have big, wide, flat feet with issues,” a shopper began. “I use a custom orthotic that doesn’t play well with most hiking boots. Enter the Moab 3 in 14 extra wide. From the first fit out of the box, I knew these boots were going to take me places without intense pain and discomfort. They are amazingly light for being so big, and the ankle support is noticeable. The Vibram sole is very grippy when it needs to hug, but doesn’t bring home 4 cubic yards of mud like my old Vibram soles. All in all a great hiking boot that didn’t break the bank.”

As far as how they hold up, shoppers say there isn’t a national park that the Moab boots can’t handle. “Last summer, I embarked on an incredible 5,561-mile road trip with my children, and these hiking boots were an essential part of my adventure,” a shopper said. “While exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, Banff, and Jasper, I was amazed by the exceptional quality, comfort, and endurance of the Moab! Love these boots!”

While Merrell is probably gearing up for a new release with new upgrades, the waterproof Moab 3 hiking boots are a worthwhile addition to your hiking arsenal, especially while they’re on sale for just $112. It’s a boot that’ll help make summer even more explorable, so make sure to grab a pair before they sell out for good.
