‘Jeopardy!’ Contestants Bomb on Sports Category Once Again

Jeopardy! contestants are known for whiffing on sports categories, and the show on Tuesday, June 5 proved to be no exception. The trio of would-be trivia champs offered some painful misses in the category of “21st Century Sports.”
First up was the $400 clue. “In 2007, this National League squad became the first team with 10,000 losses; in 2008 they won the World Series behind Cole Hamels and Ryan Howard,” read host Ken Jennings. One contestant guessed the Chicago Cubs before the answer was ultimately revealed: “Who are the Philadelphia Phillies?”

Up next was a relatively straightforward clue on college sports: “A bit like sci-fi’s Anywhere Door or Phoenix Gate, it opened on Oct. 15, 2018 to whisk college athletes to a new school.” There were no guesses for the correct answer: “What is the transfer portal?”
Finally, the $1,000 clue was revealed. “Then with Oklahoma City, this master of the triple-double became the first back-to-back MVP in the NBA All-Star Game since the 1950s,” Ken Jennings offered. The clue prompted one guess of Kevin Durant, but nobody got the ultimate answer: “Who is Russell Westbrook?”

Adriana, who was a reigning four-day champion coming into the show, ultimately came away with another win, bringing her total earnings to $116,000. Still, her incorrect guess of Kevin Durant cost her $1,000.
