Broadcast journalists in the field frequently deal with unforeseen obstacles in their reporting. One reporter working from outside the White House just learned this firsthand.

On June 4, NewsNation Washington correspondent Kellie Meyer was preparing to deliver live remarks on camera when she had an unexpected guest. In video captured by the control room, Meyer is looking into the camera when a bird suddenly alights on her head.

“Oh my God!” she says in a hushed tone. “Did it land on me?” Before she could even finish speaking, the bird—seemingly a mourning dove—had already flown off. She continues to look around and stifle her laughter and partially mouths, “What the f–k?”

Meyer then said “Yeah, I’m OK” to a member of the crew off-camera. She continues to hold back laughter and tries to keep a straight face before going on air.

After the segment, she took to social media to laugh about the moment.

“GUYS. I know there was a lot of news today but a bird landed on my head at the White House right before I went live,” she wrote on X, quipping, “He really just wanted to tune in.”

“Our feeds room caught it and saved it of course for your viewing pleasure,” she noted.

When the clip made waves online, she had more fun with the whole incident. “Didn’t think I would make ⁦TMZ headlines but here we are,” she joked with a dove emoji

Needless to say it could have been much worse.
