For decades, Bret Michaels has performed around the world as the frontman of glam rock band Poison. Michaels’ life as a rock star has taken him to some inspiring places and given him some unforgettable memories. When looking back on career path, however, he imagines how different things could’ve been if he wasn’t on stage.

In a new interview with Fox News, Michaels opened up about how his life would’ve panned out if he didn’t become a world-famous rock star. With an unshakeable love for music, Michaels admitted he would still be performing even if he wasn’t on his current level of global stardom.

“I love traveling,” he said. “I’ve said in my other life, if I had not continued to succeed in music, I would have still been in a cover band. I’m not making that up. Like I always play music. It’s therapeutic to me.”

Being in a band isn’t the only job he’d see himself doing. “I could be either a DJ or a long-haul trucker,” he mused.

“I love driving,” he added. “I like the open road.”

Of course, as a touring rock star, Michaels has spent plenty of time on the road, albeit as a passenger on a tour bus and not as a driver. But it didn’t come without its drawbacks, namely not being able to spend time with his family.

“Being on the road so much, it was never a down moment in the sense of having a bad day,” he said. “What was tough is I became a father.” Because of his job, he was away from his kids during some major life milestones. “Those are the tough, bittersweet moments, you know, as a dad,” he confessed.

Still, he wouldn’t change it for anything. “Being on the road, I know everyone wants it. I’m grateful,” he said. “In the words of the movie The Godfather, ‘This is the life we’ve chosen.'”

Michaels will delve deep into his life story in the new documentary Biography: Bret Michaels premiering on A&E on June 16.
