Jalapeno Salsa

Made with 7 simple ingredients, this Jalapeno Salsa is full of flavor and easy to make. Typically salsa is prepared with fresh tomatoes, peppers, onions, and cilantro. But there are really so many different variations and ways to create it. With so many different tomato, pepper and onion types to choose from, that in and of itself allows you to mix it up as much as you’d like. It is also versatile in use, great for dipping or drizzling on various dishes and offers the perfect balance of crisp and spicy flavors.

Is Jalapeno Salsa Healthy?

This salsa is packed with various minerals and vitamins, thanks to the fresh and whole ingredients. The jalapenos, which have vitamins A and C and potassium, along with carotene, are antioxidants that help repair cells in your body. And that’s not it. They also have folate, vitamin K, and B vitamins. Next are tomatoes, a great source of potassium, vitamin K, and folate. And how about the antibacterial, immune-strengthening onion? I like to dice mine really thin and even add a few extra to the mix! Then there are the lovely alkalizing limes. This salsa is good for the body and nourishing to the bones!

There are several variations to this jalapeno salsa recipe you can try. For example, try using different peppers such as serrano, poblano, or ghost peppers. Or how about tomatoes? Give Roma, globe, heirloom, or cherry tomatoes a try. I also love to add mango to mine. Dice up some fruit such as pineapple or even kiwi. And if you like it a little smokey, add smoked chili pepper, homemade chipotle powder, or smoked paprika. Give your dip even more color, and use various colored onions such as green, yellow, and white.

FAQs & Tips

How to Make Ahead and Store?

This jalapeno salsa is perfect for making ahead and keeping on hand. After cleaning, cutting, and preparing the jalapeño peppers, let them cool before blending them with the other ingredients. Once the salsa is prepared, transfer it into an airtight container, such as a glass mason jar, and refrigerate. Properly stored, the salsa will stay fresh for 1-2 weeks!

Do you have to remove jalapeno seeds?

Jalapeno seeds are edible, and some people like to leave them in, so no, you don’t have to. I prefer to remove the seeds and membranes from jalapenos when preparing them, but it’s really up to you; it’s not necessary.

Can Limes Neutralize the Peppers’ Heat?

Whether you like a little heat or not, the trick is to reach for something acidic when you’re ready for the spicy to subside. The acid in lemons, limes, and vinegar neutralizes the alkaline in the capsaicin and helps soften each bite.
