Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal

This Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal is so quick and easy to make! A gluten free, warm, filling and flavorful way to start your day!

Why This is the BEST Breakfast
Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE can agree that if you want a breakfast that will really fill you up and give you energy to tackle the day ahead, it has to be oatmeal. Whether you like a steamy bowl of easy overnight steel cut oats or a serving of protein cauliflower oats with sauteed strawberries is more your thing, they are the PERFECT breakfast. This maple brown sugar oatmeal recipe is probably going to become one of your new favorites, because it has the perfect touch of sweetness and the deep, richness of flavor that comes with maple syrup. Plus, it’s SO easy to whip up for an easy meal in the morning, and it’ll warm you up from the inside out.
Is Maple and Brown Sugar Healthy?
Maple syrup is a natural sweetener as it is derived from maple trees. Although it is very sweet, it is not a processed type of sugar. While brown sugar is a processed sugar, this recipe only calls for 1 Tablespoon of it, so it’s not a ton. You could also use coconut sugar in place of brown sugar to make your homemade maple brown sugar oatmeal.

What kind of Oats to use?
To make my maple and brown sugar oatmeal, I used quick 1 minute oats. It’s important to use quick oats rather than another type of oats if you want to follow this recipe correctly, as other varieties may take longer to cook. If you only have regular rolled oats, they will likely work just as long as you cook the oatmeal for longer, until they are tender.

How to Make Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal
The list of ingredients is short and sweet, and making this oatmeal is SO simple, too! Here’s how:
Combine
In a small pot, add the oats, cinnamon and salt, stirring to combine with a wire whisk.
Cook
Add the water, bringing the mixture to a boil while stirring. Cook for 1 minute or until oats have thickened.
Serve
Let stand for a few minutes, then stir in the brown sugar and maple syrup. DEVOUR!
Optional Add-Ins
If you want to kick your bowl of oatmeal up a notch at breakfast time, there are quite a few ways to jazz it up. If you want to add some fruit to the oatmeal, I would suggest some cooked apples. Their flavor will pair well with the brown sugar and maple syrup and the outcome will be absolutely delicious! If you want to add a swirl of peanut butter or almond butter to your bowl of oatmeal, that is a fantastic idea, too, as it can help balance out the carbs with some fat. If you want to boost the protein content, add a sprinkle of protein powder to the oatmeal.
