Air Fryer Mushrooms

Sometimes, I’m like “What have I not air-fried yet?”

This led me to these stellar air fryer mushrooms. It also made me wonder about the history of mushrooms.

Mushrooms have been used for medicinal purposes and enjoyed as food in many cultures for thousands of years. There are over ten thousand types of mushrooms, two thousand of which are edible, and they have numerous health benefits. Mushrooms were not popular in the States until the late 1800s. There is something different about offering people a new vegetable or dish to try, but when you mention “fungus” it is a bit of a turnoff. Right?

Luckily, this fungus has become widely accepted and gained popularity throughout history. Even better, it has now been introduced to our new fave, healthy way of cooking to bring us air fryer mushrooms.

When I was little I loved mushroom pizza but was always a little embarrassed about it. Now that I’m an adult I can proudly say I love mushrooms. I think they are the most perfect side with a nice cut of steak, like this Steak With Garlic Butter Mushrooms. Mushrooms have also become my go-to for breakfast. When I need to break out of a boring routine I make this healthy Mushroom Frittata.

You will love these air fryer mushrooms because they are simple and so savory. The best part? You most likely have all of the ingredients to make them already in your kitchen!

Are Air Fryer Mushrooms Healthy?

Yes! Air fryer mushrooms are healthy. There are endless benefits to eating mushrooms. Mushrooms are high in antioxidants and are a great source of fiber and protein. Mushrooms also contain selenium, which supports your immune system and may even reduce the symptoms of asthma.

Additionally, air fryer mushrooms are low in calories and carbs. Since we use the air fryer with just a bit of oil, this method is a lighter way to enjoy shrooms. This recipe is vegetarian, vegan, keto, and gluten-free!

How To Prep Air Fryer Mushrooms:

I have heard of soaking mushrooms and salting mushrooms to prep, but that is not necessary for air fryer mushrooms. Mushrooms can absorb water easily, so soaking them may lead to a mushy dish. The best way to prep mushrooms is by rinsing them with cold water, then putting them into a salad spinner to get off any excess water. You can also pat them dry with paper towels.

FAQs & Tips

How to Make Ahead and Store

Although air fryer mushrooms are best eaten right away, they can be stored in the fridge, in an airtight container for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them in a single layer in the air fryer at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 5 minutes.

Can I use any other kind of mushroom?

You sure can! Feel free to use cremini, button, or chestnut mushrooms.

What Kind OF oil should I use to make Air Fryer Mushrooms?

In this recipe, I use EVOO, because I love it and I always have a gigantic bottle. Feel free to use avocado oil, grapeseed oil, and even sesame oil for an extra layer of flavor.
