Beloved Classic Rock Band Reportedly in Talks for Vegas Sphere Residency

If the owner of the Sphere venue in Las Vegas has his way, the next big residency lined up will be the classic rock band the Eagles.

The New York Post reported this week that James Dolan, founder of Madison Square Garden and owner of the Knicks and Rangers, has been “courting” the Eagles since last year. The band is managed by Dolan’s longtime friend Irving Azoff, who co-founded the Oak View Group, which handles marketing partnerships for the Sphere. Azoff likewise manages U2 and Dead & Company member John Mayer, both of which have had contracts with the venue.

The residency will reportedly extend the Eagles’ Long Goodbye tour, which wraps up in the Netherlands on June 15, over the course of 10 weekends from September through December 2024. The band’s original frontman Don Henley will perform the slate of shows alongside longtime guitarist Joe Walsh and bassist Timothy B. Schmit.

While the terms of the deal are still supposedly being ironed out, a total number of shows has not yet been disclosed.

“We do not comment on any artists performing at Sphere except for those who have been announced,” a spokesperson for the Sphere told The Post on Monday.

Assuming the deal goes through, the Eagles will be joining Dead & Company, which are kicking off a six-week residency starting in May and Phish, which announced a four-show run in April late last year, among other big musical acts being eyed to perform at the $2.3 billion venue.

And of course, the Sphere kicked off its grand opening in September 2023, with a 40-show U2 residency called U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere, which just concluded earlier this month.
