While many outdoor brands compete to make the most advanced (and expensive) jackets, Columbia has always stood out for its commitment to value. Even its best tech is often more affordable than other outdoor gear brands, making the Portland-based company a great budget-friendly stop for everything from hiking bags to fishing gear.

Columbia’s Cedar Cliff Insulated Jacket features a breathable waterproof outer and synthetic down insulation, making it a great layer for rainy, cold days. Typically $180, the jacket is marked down to just $60. There are five colors to choose from, and three size types, including standard, big, and tall.

The jacket is seam-sealed to prevent water from seeping into the stitching, and the shell is made from a waterproof but breathable 70D nylon fabric that blocks out rain but prevents moisture from building up inside the jacket. The hood features adjustable drawstrings for a snug fit on those days when the rain decides to fall sideways. There are also zippered hand pockets on the outside of the jacket for secure storage. The jacket’s cuffs are even elasticated for additional protection from cold and rain.

The inside of the jacket features a quilted lining with a synthetic fill for additional warmth, making for a warmer option than the average rain jacket. The quilted lining varies in color depending on the colorway you choose. Navy and black have a matching lining, while dark stone and warp red feature black linings. The most statement-making option is stone green, which features a flame orange lining that draws inspiration from military jackets.

Shoppers appreciated that the jacket was warm for the weight, with one mentioning that, “it’s stylish, warm, and lightweight,” and another writing that it was “light and not very bulky.” Shoppers in varied climates were impressed with its performance, particularly from the wet storms originating in the Gulf of Mexico. A reviewer mentioned that it was “great for Canadian winters with mixed precipitation from Texas low [a type of low-pressure system that moves up from the Gulf],” and another wrote that it was “warm enough for typical Gulf South winter when you want something warmer than a sweatshirt.”

If you’re looking for a lightweight but warm jacket to protect you from rain, consider picking up Columbia’s Cedar Cliff Jacket for a whopping $120 off.
