Bacon is one of the most loved and universal meat products, and a breakfast staple for many. But who needs the hassle and mess of frying up a batch for the family on a weekend morning? Not us!

This recipe uses leaner back bacon, also known as rashers. It is meatier and much lower in fat than regular bacon, though this cooking method works just as well with regular bacon.

Once you start batch-cooking your bacon this way we think you’ll never go back to the old-school skillet method.

Is Bacon Healthy?

Bacon is cured pork – regular bacon comes from the belly and back bacon comes from the loin. It is high in protein, and back bacon is relatively low in fat. Side bacon is high in saturated fats. We recommend that you exercise common sense and moderation in your bacon consumption. If you’re going to consume bacon, this method is healthier than frying it.

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat the oven to 400 F and cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  • Once the oven is hot, lay the bacon out onto the foil, you can scrunch it up a little to fit more on. Make sure the bacon isn’t covering each other, it should be in one layer.
  • Place the tray in the oven and bake for 15 minutes or until they are cooked to your liking. Turn them once about halfway through.

Tips and Tricks to Make a Perfect Bacon in the oven with aluminum foil

  • Keep close eye on the bacon for the last five minutes of cooking time to make sure you get your preferred doneness.
  • If you’re batch cooking and planning to freeze the bacon, undercook it a little.
  • Save the bacon fat and store it in the fridge. Use it to make roast potatoes or pancakes.
  • Drain the bacon on paper towel or a wire rack when it comes out of the oven.

FAQs

Do i have to use back bacon?

No. Back bacon is meatier and healthier, but this method works well with any kind of bacon.

I don’t eat pork

We don’t recommend processed turkey bacon for this method, but smoked turkey thigh, thinly sliced, works great.

Can i season the bacon?

Bacon is already quite salty, but you can drizzle a little maple syrup on the bacon for an extra special treat. The syrup can burn, so keep a close eye. A little cracked black pepper also works great. Try both together! Yum!

Serving Suggestions

Whether it’s going in a BLT, the ultimate club sandwich or as a side for your eggs, this easy bacon is a star. As a special treat, you’ll love it with a Full English Breakfast, which is adding sausage, grilled tomato, fried mushrooms, baked beans and a sunny side up egg. Not something you’d want to eat regularly, but delicious nonetheless.

Make Ahead and Storage

This bacon will keep well in the fridge for about a week. It will also freeze well if you’re inclined to make a bigger batch. Undercook it a little and heat it in the microwave. Cooked bacon has a longer shelf life than uncooked bacon.
