Man Arrested in Connection to 1996 Murder of Tupac Shakur
Police in Las Vegas reportedly made an arrest today in the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. It’s a major update in a case that has been one of the country’s most infamous unsolved homicides.
As The Associated Press reports, Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 60, was arrested early this morning and charged with murder. A Nevada grand jury has indicted Davis in the case, according to prosecutors. Chief Deputy District Attorney Marc DiGiacomo said Davis was an “on-ground, on-site commander” and that he “ordered the death” of Tupac Shakur.
Davis has openly admitted to being in the car when Shakur was gunned down 27 years ago, and police raided the home of his wife in Henderson, NV earlier this year in connection to the case. In fact, he provided a detailed description of the event in the 2019 book Compton Street Legend: Notorious Keffe D’s Street-Level Accounts of Tupac and Biggie Murders, Death Row Origins, Suge Knight, Puffy Combs, and Crooked Cops:

One retired police detective cited by AP suggested that the book may have played a role in Davis’ prosecution.
Shakur was 25 when he was murdered in a drive-by shooting on the Las Vegas strip.
