Naan Pizza

Pizza night means a lot of different things to my family and me. Growing up Italian, sometimes pizza night meant inviting everyone we knew and making our own recipes from scratch. Other times, it meant Mom didn’t want to cook and we were ordering takeout.

Nowadays, it’s a chance for my partner and I to feel like we cooked a fun meal together without putting in too much effort. We’ve discovered a hack to making delicious, easy pizzas in just a few minutes—naan bread. We’re always stocked up on fresh or frozen naan because we love snacking on it with a side of fresh Tzatziki sauce or serving it alongside our more exotic dinners like Tandoori Chicken. One night, we got the idea to use naan as a quick substitute for a last-minute pizza night, and we haven’t looked back. This Naan Pizza is easy, delicious, and just as customizable as your traditional pizza.

Is Naan Pizza Healthy?

As far as pizzas go, this recipe is as healthy as you’d like. Make it an even more nutritious meal by choosing health-conscious toppings! I love loading my pizza up with bell peppers, red onion slices, olives, and hearty proteins like chicken. I also like to baste my naan with garlic and olive oil for extra flavor, as well as some healthy fats.

What is naan?

Naan is a bread that originated and is still commonly found in Middle Eastern and South Asian cuisine. Naan is a flatbread similar to pita, but made with yogurt, amongst other more common ingredients. Traditionally, naan bread bakes in a tandoor (a clay oven) by slapping the dough onto the side of the dome and letting it fall into a teardrop shape.

Naan is commonly served with flavorful dips, like this Butter Chicken Dip, or dishes like Vegetable Curry and Indian Chicken Kebabs. However, given its taste and consistency, naan can also make for an excellent base for your pizza!

You can substitute your pre-made naan for a gluten-free version from your local grocery store or make your own yeast-free dough.

If you are going to take my word for it and try a pizza date night, I suggest serving your Naan Pizzas with a Homemade Ranch dipping sauce and a side salad, like this one made with cucumbers and avocado.
