Patrick Mahomes is a busy man. Between leading the Kansas City Chiefs to two Super Bowl victories and juggling his duties as a father, one would think he wouldn’t have much time for socializing, even if it’s with other well-known public figures.

Mahomes met Happy Days star Henry Winkler when the Chiefs played the L.A. Chargers last year. The quarterback celebrated the occasion by giving Winkler a signed personalized jersey, telling the actor “I appreciate you coming.” Winkler was just as pleased, telling Mahomes “I’m so happy to be here.”

Winkler even offered to have dinner with Mahomes in an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show last year. “Absolutely, there is always a seat at my table for you,” Winkler told Mahomes enthusiastically.

A year after Winkler first made the offer, the two have yet to sit down and break bread together. “I think he fibbed to me,” Winkler told TMZ on Nov. 26. There’s no hard feelings, however, and Winkler’s invite still stands, tempting Mahomes with the promise that he’ll “have a great chicken” if he comes.

Winkler reflected on Mahomes’ talent and strength on The Rich Eisen Show earlier this year, giving the 28-year-old Super Bowl champ his props. “To meet that young man and then to watch him play and then to watch him hurt,” the actor admired. “And then to watch him run six or seven miles with a hurt foot, a hurt ankle, in order to take his team… to the promised land, I thought was touching, amazing [and] inspiring.” Of course, he had to add that he “never calls for dinner.”

If the Chiefs win back-to-back Super Bowl titles next year, Winkler might get stuck with hosting the long-overdue celebration.
