These nutrient-packed Salmon Burgers will be a hit with kids and adults alike!

Salmon Burgers

Made with fresh salmon and packed with nutrients, this salmon burger recipe offers a healthier alternative to traditional burgers. With a crispy, golden-brown exterior and a flaky interior, these patties are juicy and packed with flavor. Enjoy them burger-style on a toasted brioche bun, or skip the bun and simply serve them on a bed of arugula. Of course, they’re delicious all on their own, too!

What I love about these burgers is their versatility when it comes to sauces. Sure, you can serve them with a classic mayonnaise, but you can also step things up a notch by adding a spritz of lemon or sweet chili sauce to the mayonnaise for extra flavor. I especially love these salmon burgers with basil pesto, which complements the burgers perfectly. Loaded with flavor, these burgers will not disappoint, no matter which topping you choose. These burgers are great for parties, cookouts, or quick dinners at home. They can easily be prepared in advance and come together in no time.

Are Salmon Burgers Healthy?

Yes, they are. Salmon is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and provides a high-quality protein. To make the burgers even healthier, serve them on a whole-wheat bun, or skip the bun and wrap them in a crisp leaf of Romaine lettuce. The patties are pan-fried, but you can also brush them with a little oil and bake them in a 400°F oven for 15-20 minutes.

Multiple ways to Make & Serve

The garnish options for these burgers are endless. You can never go wrong with caramelized onions, crisp arugula, and avocado slices on a burger. Additional herbs, such as chopped chives and seasonings, such as a dash of smoked paprika powder, add a burst of flavor. I also like to mix in chopped garlic and onions.

Don’t feel restricted to traditional burger style either—these patties are fantastic served alongside salads or rice bowls.

FAQs & Tips

How to Make Ahead and Store

The patties can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. For longer storage, you can always individually wrap the uncooked patties in parchment paper and freeze them in an airtight, freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Just make sure to thaw the frozen patties overnight in the refrigerator before cooking. When ready to cook, proceed as directed. The cooked patties stay well in the fridge, stored in a Ziploc bag or airtight container, for up to 3 days.

CAN I USE CANNED OR FROZEN SALMON?

Sure! While this recipe calls for fresh salmon, you can easily replace it with the same amount of canned or frozen salmon. If using canned, make sure you drain it to avoid a soggy mixture and burgers that fall apart. Frozen salmon should be defrosted and patted dry with paper towel for the same reason. When using fresh salmon, opt for wild-caught Pacific salmon, if possible, for better quality.

The Bun Matters

A soft bun that matches the size of your patties is key. Brioche buns or ciabatta work beautifully, and toasting them enhances the flavor and texture.

Serving Suggestions

These light, tender, and moist salmon burgers are fresh and flavorful. The burgers can be served on a toasted brioche bun with lettuce, avocado, and a fresh lemon aioli, for a balanced flavor profile. Or you can serve these salmon patties on a bed of greens with a creamy dressing of your choice. Great sides include Air Fryer Asparagus and Roasted Sweet Potatoes.

For gatherings, I recommend setting up a spread and serving the burgers (along with other patties) buffet-style. Include a variety of condiments and toppings like a homemade basil pesto sauce, barbecue sauce, plain Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, arugula or spinach, tomatoes, red onions, and avocados.
