A good pair of hiking pants will stand up to the abrasion of rocks and branches, flex with your body as you scramble up a boulder, and allow your legs to breathe in the process. But a great pair of hiking pants can do all that and blend in at the office immediately after. It sounds crazy, but that’s the versatility Kuhl affords guys with its Deceptr Pants, which just got marked down at REI during the retailer’s winter clearance sale.

Right now, the Kuhl Deceptr hiking pants are on sale for $70—a 29% discount on the original $99 price tag. Shoppers have given this know-no-boundary pair of pants more than 300 five-star ratings and, subsequently, have made it the No. 1 bestselling pair of hiking pants at REI. “It’s just a pair of pants,” some might scoff. But there’s more than meets the eye here.

The Kuhl Deceptr hiking pants are ready to outlast any environment, whether it’s an encounter with a bear or your boss. They’re made with Tufflite fabric, which combines nylon, elastane, and polyester into a matte-finish pant that’s durable but forgiving and UPF 50+ protective. They’ve also been given a water-resistant treatment that helps ward off light rain or even spills. Considered a slim fit, Kuhl has cut these pants with an articulated leg and added a gusseted crotch to create a more ergonomic fit that feels natural without looking weird. The brand has also included no less than seven different pockets for various uses.

Kuhl calls these pants “chinos with an alter ego.” It’s one thing if you call a lumber yard your office, but wearing hiking pants for a marketing or finance job seems counterintuitive. Fortunately, dress codes have simmered down in office environments since the pandemic, making way for more creativity when getting dressed for work. The Deceptr pant is the perfect complement to a smart-casual getup. It pairs nicely with a button-down shirt and a sweater or even just a clean hooded sweatshirt and some business casual sneakers.

Shoppers are taking full advantage of these hybrid pants, with many finding them super comfortable, thanks to a wide range of sizes, and ready for any adventure. “These are my favorite by far,” a shopper said. “I own a few other Kuhl pants as well as some other ‘technical’ style pants. These are the best. They feel great and can really fit about any need; travel, office, casual, etc.”

Others have been so wowed by the fit that they’ve made these pants the star of their everyday work attire. “Bought a pair for my husband and he loved them so much we bought three more pairs,” a shopper said. “They look fantastic after countless washes and wearing them to work (he’s a mechanic), and they resist staining and tearing.”

Style aside, shoppers have tested them on actual trails and have been surprised by their durability given how light they are. “At first, I wasn’t sure if I would like it but I love them and get tons of compliments,” another shopper exclaimed. “I went on an all-day hike in these in Costa Rica and they were excellent. Great pants. Wish there were ever more colors!” They went on to say how much they appreciated the fit, the look, the taper, and the amount of stretch packed into them.

With REI’s winter clearance sale underway, outdoor lovers are scooping up Kuhl’s bestselling Deceptr hiking pants and other products from their favorite brands for up to 50% off. With a full selection of sizes available at the time of publication, we’re expecting this to be one of the most popular items of the sale. Despite that, don’t wait to get yours—once sizes are sold out, they’re gone for good.
