Finding pastries that taste good but aren’t overloaded with sugar and obviously unhealthy is a constant battle for many of us. But these tahini chocolate chip energy bites are able to walk that line. For starters, they are small and easy to just pop into your mouth. It’s not like it’s a cake and you have to worry about cutting a piece that’s too big. Maybe you just eat a couple with a cup of tea in the evening for a lovely and healthy dessert. They also make for a great snack in the middle of the day when you feel the need for a sugar rush but know you shouldn’t.

The healthy element of the tahini chocolate chip energy bites comes from no refined sugar being in the recipe. All of the sweetness comes naturally from the chocolate chips, honey, flaxmeal, and desiccated coconut. While tahini may not be quite as sweet as some of the other snacks or desserts you’re used to eating, it’ll satisfy your craving.

Tahini, if you don’t know, has the appearance of peanut butter and similar nut-based spreads. It just doesn’t have the same sweetness as similar spreads. Instead, these energy bites will give you a nutty flavor from the tahini mixing with the honey. But don’t forget that the chocolate chips will provide the little bit of sweetness you might be craving. Meanwhile, the oats and sesame seeds give this recipe a little bit of texture. In short, these energy bites have everything you could want from a healthy snack or dessert. If you’re interested in other healthy desserts, consider a carrot cake that’s both sugar free and gluten free. Of course, if you can’t hold yourself back from chocolate, try a paleo German chocolate cake.

Are Tahini Chocolate Chip Energy Bites Healthy?

As we mentioned, tahini chocolate chip energy bites are ideal if you’re looking for a healthy dessert or snack. Thanks to ingredients like flax meal and sesame seeds, they are packed with healthy fats and fiber. We’ll also mention again no refined sugars, which is always a must when you want to cook up a healthy dessert.

Plus, with tahini being the main ingredient, you’ll get the health benefits it provides. Tahini is also full of healthy fats, as well as vitamins, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory compounds. Keep in mind that while 1/4 cup of sesame seeds is in the recipe, sesame seeds are also one of the base ingredients in tahini. There is some evidence to suggest that sesame seeds can lower cholesterol while also reducing the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes. In other words, it’s hard to go wrong health-wise with a healthy dose of tahini and sesame seeds in your dessert.

Variations

Don’t think that the recipe for tahini chocolate chip energy bites is written in stone. There are different ways to mix things up or substitute ingredients to suit your personal tastes. For example, you can easily replace the honey with maple syrup for something a little sweeter. It’s also fine to use dairy-free chocolate chips or gluten-free rolled oats if someone you know has dietary restrictions. Finally, while where is a little bit of protein in these energy bites already, adding a scoop of protein powder is fine if you want them to be even more packed with protein.
