These Are the 10 Types of Car Most Likely to Be Stolen

A recently released annual crime report by the FBI and Virginia’s Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) shows that car theft has increased by 20 percent since 2022. It also revealed which 10 cars were most susceptible to theft. The study is carried out yearly by the HLDI and breaks down the frequency of consumer theft claims by car type. It’s then assigned a score based on the average number of claims each year.

According to the results, the car most at risk for theft in the United States is the Dodge Charger Hellcat, a four-door muscle car. Researchers found theft claims on this model to be 60 times more than the average, which is 100 claims per vehicle. The Hellcat had 6,128 claims of theft per year.

Second on the list was another Dodge model, the Charger Hemi. It was stolen at a rate more than 20 times the average, for a score of 2,197. Far below the Hemi, in third place with a relatively manageable score of 876, was the Infiniti Q50 luxury sedan.

Dodge Chargers and Challengers are particularly sought after, according to the HLDI, due to their powerful engines. The same goes for Ford’s F-250 and 350, the Ram 3500 4WD, and Honda’s CRV. CRVs in particular were shown to be four times more likely to be stolen than the national average.
